Far East Movement's "Rocketeer" cracks into the Billboard top 10

Far East Movement has done it again with a follow-up hit "Rocketeer", rocketing up the Billboard Hot 100 and taking #9 this week. Will it be able to sustain its momentum and take the #1 spot? We'll have to stay tuned.

In the meantime, enjoy a clip of their performance on Conan if you missed it last night.

If you haven't seen their official music video, here it is. They got some pretty sick Datsun 240Z's in the video.

Godfrey Gao is Louis Vuitton's First Asian Male Model

By Kathy Ko from Schema Magazine

Vancouverite Godfrey Gao was recently chosen to be the new face of Louis Vuitton's Spring/Summer 2011 Ready-to-Wear campaign. This is the first time that the 157 year old luxury brand has ever featured an Asian model.

The first released image of the ad campaign shows the handsome Gao sporting the newest Louis Vuitton Damier Graphite Elvis messenger bag. For the first time, Louis Vuitton is explicitly aiming to market to the Asian population. Asians have a voracious appetite for luxury brands, especially in China, where Louis Vuitton and other high-end fashion retailers have opened stores.

So who is the man behind the latest Louis Vuitton ad? Gao was born in Vancouver but was raised by a Taiwanese father and Malaysian mother. The 26 year old's interests include basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball, taekwondo, wakeboarding, DJ, playing the drums, track-and-field and ice skating. In his English interview with UrbanWire, he talks about his love for food and cooking.

Gao graduated from Argyle Secondary School in North Vancouver and studied at Capilano University. At 6'4" (195 cm), he has modelled in local fashion shows for Mantique, Torino and Ecko (G-Unit) clothing. His early acting credits consist of small roles in Star-gate SG-1 and Still-Life -- both of which were produced in his hometown.

He decided to base his career in Taiwan and was immediately embraced by the industry. Godfrey has appeared in seven Taiwanese dramas, from The Kid from Heaven in 2006 to the most recent Volleyball Lover. The paparazzi in Taiwan and Hong Kong has started to follow him everywhere, a sign of his increasing celebrity status. Even though this star is rising fast, Gao still remains a very humble, unassuming and soft-spoken guy known as 'G' among his closest friends. In spring, his face will be seen in magazines, websites and stores around the world.

Live-Action Sci-Fi Movie 'Space Battleship Yamato' opens today in Japan

For our North American readers old enough to remember waking up 6am in the morning before school to catch "Star Blazers", this is the first ever live-action movie version of the Japanese anime series it was based off of: Space Battleship Yamato.  Opening today in Japan, it stars Japan's number 1 leading man Kimura Takuya, along with Kuroki Meisa and Yanagiba Toshiro.

Looking at the trailer and the first 2 minutes of it, it certainly has potential for a worldwide release.  They even nabbed Aerosmith frontman, Steven Tyler to sing the official movie theme song, "Love Lives", bravely setting themselves for comparisons to the movie "Armageddon".  No announcements have been made so far for an American release.  If it ever does, going with the name "Star Blazers" would most certainly help the marketing side of it.

The official trailer:

Time for Takeoff - FAR EAST MOVEMENT'S Rise to Power

What do get when you take 4 work-a-holic Asian Americans representing 4 distinct ethnicities (Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Filipino) and give them musical instruments? Elektro nirvana. Now mix in a venue and a void to fill and you're slowly beginning to understand what The Far East Movement epitomize. Since their saga is one that's still being written, let's bring you up to speed before you go ask somebody and get slapped.

No really. You the man. FM MOVEMENT was founded in 2003. Members consists of Kev Nish, Prohgress, J-Splif, and DJ Virman. All four call Los Angeles, California home.

Aside from comparisons to LMFAO and numerous electro hip hop acts, they prefer to forge apart and be pioneers. In fact they don't much care for labels- they prefer to term their music (as well as the lifestyle they've created) 'Free Wired'.

From their official website, ‘Free Wired’ translates to a way of life by constantly staying interactive and living the lifestyle it promotes. If so..

may we join you in "popping bottles like a blizzard".. please?

Turtle lover or simply an avid fan of ENTOURAGE? Then you've likely heard their track in the background during one of Ari Gold's majestic tirades. "Boomshake"was featured in the HBO series.

If you're enamored of nitrous breathing beasts from the east, you'll immediately recognize and stand in respect to the battle anthem of the import scene deployed by FM in 2006.

Their sizzling single "Round Round" was loud and proud in the film "The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift". And speaking of smoking hot..

The Dogg Father himself, Snoop will be one of the artists featured on FM's new album entitled FREE WIRED. It is their first major debut album from Cherry/Interscope Records. It drops October 12, 2010 and also contains tracks graced by Keri Hilson, Lil Jon and

the ever enchanting Natalia Kills to name a few.

Earlier this year FM's single ANIMAL was used in the opening title sequence of the short K-Town Cowboys. If I drink 3 bottles of 750ml Hite, 2 soju bombs and a shot of Patron, how much alcohol have I consumed?

Who here's good in math? The boys get down and geek out.

Why the dark sunglasses at night? According to Prohgrees,“Our routine and fashion allow us to party all night, then head straight to an important business meeting in the morning, we always stay business fresh, plus we keep shades on to hide the lack of sleep.”

In 2009 they were in very good company during Powerhouse. This is an epic concert held annually on the west coast. Concisely, it is the Olympics of club joints sponsored by LA mega station Power 106 where hip hop lives.

Ok fellas, time to grab your gear for LAX and be "Fly Like a G6" after being an "Animal" last night with the "Girls on the Dance Floor"- ok, we're deeply sorry but we love our favorite free wired party rockers here at Groove Asia and gentlemen, "You've Got a Friend". Peace out.

Music Video for "Athena: Goddess of War" Released

athenamv.jpg

As some of you may already know, the sequel/spin-off to last year's top Korean TV drama "Iris" is scheduled to air in Korea this November.  Called "Athena: Goddess of War", it pulls no punches with star power.

In the lead role is Jung Woo Sung.  Though not as renown as Lee Byung-Hun world-wide but definitely not lacking in the looks department, whether he can match Lee's performance in "Iris" remains to be seen. His credentials of hit movies and TV dramas, though, gives us a convincing bet that he will not fail to impress.  And judging from his character still below, there definitely is a hint of James Bond in him.

athena1.jpg

Equally impressive as the leading man, Park Soo Ae takes on the star female lead.  Park is probably best known for her role of Lady Junghwa in the drama "Emperor of the Sea".

athena2.jpg

We're not sure of Cha Seung-won role but he looks mighty bad-ass.

athena3.jpg

Here is Kim Min-jong.  According to sources, he will be playing a North Korean defector who becomes Jung's partner.

athena4-1.jpg

To make sure we have the teeny boppers glued to the tube, we have no other than Super Junior's Choi Siwon.

athena5.jpg

Last but not least, we have one gratutious eye-candy for the boys and men: Lee Jia.

athena6.jpg

So there you go: a quick intro to the cast.  Until the series starts in November, all we have to quell our anxiousness with, is a music video from its original soundtrack called "I Love You" by Park Hyo Shin.

Enjoy!
